How does solar work?
When the sun shines light (Photons) your solar panels convert the light into Direct current (D.C) electricity. The solar inverter converts this D.C electricity into Alternating current (A.C) to be used in your home. The excess power you don’t use will be sent back to the grid for money or a home solar battery to be used later.
How does battery storage work?
Solar panels generate electricity from the sunlight (photons) the direct current flow through your inverter to generate Alternating current for use in your home, the excess electricity not used by your appliances will charge your battery. When the sun goes down your home is powered by the energy stored in your battery.
How often should I clean my solar panels?
Solar panels should be cleaned every 12 months or more frequent in dusty environments.
How do I clean my solar panels?
Solar panels should be cleaned using water only avoiding detergents, solvents etc. Abrasive materials should not be used to clean panels. A soft broome or cloth can be used to remove loose debris and harder soilings.
Will my inverter work during a blackout?
A grid connected inverter will disconnect from the the grid during a blackout. You should check over the phone whether there is or has been a blackout
Can a inverter be installed outside?
Most inverters can be installed outside but it is recommended to be installed under cover or in the garage as this will avoid sun damage to the screens. Direct sunlight can shorten the life the inverter.
Are there any on going maintenance to my inverter and panels after installation?
Solar panels and inverters should have an annual inspection and cleaning to keep them in optimal performance.
Do solar panels work at night or during cloudy weather?
Solar panels do not work at night once the sunsets your home or business draws power from the grid or battery.
Solar does work during cloudy weather but the performance is reduced by about half.
Is solar power safe?
The Australian solar industry is highly regulated and is safe. All solar panels, inverters and batteries must comply with the Australian standards.
What should I do if my solar system stops working?
First check if the system hasn’t been turned off or if there is a current blackout in your area. Contact Sunco Energy as your inverter will still be under warranty. If your system is out of warranty you may be responsible for the cost of repairs or replacement.
What is feed in tariff?
A feed in tariff is the amount your electricity retailer pays for your excess solar power being sent to the grid. Current prices are 2.5 cents/KW between 6am-3pm 10 cents/KW between 3pm-9pm These are for systems under 6.6kW
What are STCs?
STCs or small scale technology certificates are government incentives that reduce the upfront cost of your solar system. STCs amount depend on the size of your system and your location.
Is my installer accredited?
You should ask to see your installers digital accreditation I.D.
